The History of Fairies in Disney Animated Films
For decades children have been enchanted and entertained by the magical films produced by Disney. My first recollection of going to the movies was to see Snow White at Christmas Time when the local theater would play the classic. Though the Dwarfs aren't actually fairies, they do come from the same source - fairytales. Everyone loves the charming little men who live and work in the forest - going off to work each day to work in their mines. While not sure about each other at first, through living together and caring for the men Snow White is accepted as one of them. As is true with Disney films, the evil step-mother doesn't succeed in trying to do away with Snow White, but though the princess does lap into a deep sleep, eventually her Prince Charming shows up and wakes her with a kiss.
Next comes probably my favorite of the Disney films which is Cinderella. In this film we have a Fairy Godmother along with the evil step-mother joined by two evil step-daughters. While the mice and the birds aren't fairies, they are fairy-like in the way they care for and deal with Cinderella. They are even magically turned into the drivers and coachman of her pumpkin- turned-carriage.
In Sleeping Beauty we have real fairies. Disney had issued a limited edition two DVD edition of the beloved fairy tale. Here's an extended promotion video:
There are more Disney stories based on Fairy Tales, but I think if you were to ask people for the top three classic films they would be Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty.
And how could there be a discussion of Disney Fairies without a tribute to the man himself and that most mischevious fairy Tinkerbell:
